It's totally here. Even though it's been labelled an "announcement trailer" rather than a standard teaser, this early look at the highly anticipated Star Trek sequel contains more than enough footage to have us rabidly excited for its release next summer.

Boasting a decidedly darker tone than the 2009 reboot, the trailer gives us flashes of mass destruction and chaos accompanied by an ominous voiceover from the lead villain, played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

Okay so we could have done without the Inception noise AGAIN but overall, we're mightily impressed.

What do you think?

Star Trek Into Darkness is released on May 17th 2013
