Iconic American comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live has not been shy about ripping apart Donald Trump in the lead up to the US election, and now that he is going to actually be President of the United States (which we still find incredibly weird) they’re not backing down one bit, roping in Bryan Cranston’s Walter White character for the weekend’s opening skit.
The Breaking Bad star revived his anti-hero to play Trump’s new head of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), saying “I’m a big fan, I like his style...he acts first and then asks questions later.”
He also went on to say that he loved the idea of a wall being built across the Mexican border: “Nothing comes in from Mexico, meaning a lot less competition for the rest of us,” the methamphetamine dealer says.”
The host asked for a follow up on the odd statement, “Do you mean jobs?”
“Sure,” White replied.
This not-far-from-the-truth sketch come in the wake of the President-elect’s rather controversial choices for his cabinet, including a man he only refers to as “Mad Dog” who will be Secretary of Defense, and WWE’s Linda McMahon, the professional wrestling magnate. Yes, wrestling. Steel chair over the head, 3D through a table, do you smell what the Rock is cooking wrestling.
Scott Pruitt, a fossil fuel advocate, who will lead the Environmental Protection Agency (sigh), is also rightly made fun of in the opening of the show.
“Are these bad picks?” Beck Bennett, who plays CNN’s Jake Tapper, questions Kate McKinnon as Kellyanne Conway.
“No, they are alt-good.”
