We have reached (off) peak avocado.
In the latest example of avocados apparently being more than just something tasty and nutritious to put on your toast, they can now get you cheaper train travel if you are a (un)lucky millennial.
Following the exciting announcement of the ‘millennial railcard’ last year for those of us between the ages of 26 and 30 who still can’t afford astronomical train ticket prices, 10,000 of the railcards were released yesterday, but they sold out almost immediately due to ‘unprecedented demand’. (Really? The government genuinely thought there were less than 10,000 26- to 30-year-olds interested in cheaper train travel?). In light of this, the people at Virgin Trains have announced that they will match the offer for anyone who turns up to travel with an avocado. Yes, really.
Called the #Avocard, the delicious discount will work in the same way as the railcard, and must be presented when buying tickets.
A Virgin Trains spokesman said: “Passengers who meet the criteria to qualify for a 26-30 railcard can bag themselves a discount on their journey with Virgin Trains on the West Coast by simply presenting an avocado at the ticket office, instead of the usual railcard, along with photo identification.
“And after buying their tickets, the #Avocard can be enjoyed as a healthy snack!”
For maximum enjoyment, make sure you bring along some chips and a guacamole-making kit and make Queer Eye’s Antoni proud.
