'The Big Bang Theory' goes all political, calls Donald Trump a ‘fascist’
The CBS show is weighing in before the US midterm elections
There are plenty of critics of The Big Bang Theory. There are the people who call it sexist, the viewers who think it’s a touch racist and many, many more who say it’s just not very funny.
But, however you look at it, you can’t deny the numbers: the show has attracted more than 18 million viewers each season and has become one of the longest-running sitcoms in US history.
The CBS programme, about a gang of nerdy scientists, has been on the air since 2007 and in that time has built a devoted fan base.
And now, with just days to go before the US midterm elections, the sitcom has gone all political with a blistering anti-Trump message snuck into its regular ‘vanity card’, placed between the closing credits and the Warner Bros. logo, on the 25 October episode of the show.
“God… if you, in your divine wisdom, believe a fascist, hate-filled, fear-mongering, demagogic, truth-shattering, autocratic golf cheater is what we need right now, then, you know, thy will be done,” the message reads.
“But if thou art inclined to more freedom, more love, more compassion, and just more of the good stuff thou hath been promoting in our hearts or our parietal lobes - either one, doesn’t really matter - I submissively ask that thy encourage voter turnout in that general direction.”
Way to go Big Bang Theory.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that the massively popular sitcom will air its final episode in 2019.
“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons,” said a statement from Warner Bros. Television, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions.
“We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”
Here’s that vanity card in full:
