Robert Downey Jr to appear as Iron Man in the new Spider-Man flick

Man oh man.

While cinema schedules may appear saturated with comic book adaptations, audiences are still filling out the seats - spurring Sony and Marvel to push on with their reboot of the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.

Titled Spider-Man: Homecoming - a nod to this eighties comic storyline - various credible sources are reporting that the studios have signed on Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man to flesh out the new film.

Details are yet to emerge as how the new Spider-Man timeline will tie in to the existing Marvel cinematic universe: Tom Holland's Spider-Man has gained hugely positive reviews for his turn in upcoming Captain America: Civil War - Iron Man could make a brief appearance to convince Spidey to join his cause in the 'civil war' (prequel style), or could appear after the events to support his new web-slinging friend.

While Downey Jr joins the list of names tipped to be involved in the project, rumours surrounding Michael Keaton appearing as the film's central villain have been quashed. Both Deadline and Variety have word that initial talks for Keaton to take an unknown villain role fell through.

So long as Homecoming features nothing like the below, we'll be happy...
