Disney has a problem. One, single, unique little niggle. You could say it's a "Solo issue".
Its fully operational Star Wars machine is in fine working order: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to hang on the same Christmas release peg as last year's record-setting The Force Awakens, while Rian Johnson is carefully crafting Episode VIII right this very minute.
The next project in Disney's that's-no-moon-sized line up is Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo - an origin story set to explore how the galaxy's favourite rogue got messed up in the smuggling business, befriended a walking carpet and came to own the fastest ship in the skies. Yet, despite audition almost every 20-something-year-old actor in Hollywood, Disney just doesn't know who give the humbling task of playing the young Solo.
Dave Franco (younger brother of James) recently spoke to MTV about his audition for the role, highlighting the studio's problems:
"I went in one time for Jeanie McCarthy, who I've auditioned for a million times before, and we just had a really fun time together in the room. And then because of the nature of what it is, it just explodes everywhere. Everyone's coming up and being like, 'Dude what's going on?' and I'm like, 'I don't know, you know as much as me!'"
Rather than attempting to create an immature copy of Harrison Ford's iconic performance of Solo, Franco stuck to his own take on the role - which he didn't get.
"I'm not good with impressions or anything like that. I think that's the reason why it's so hard to cast this role. Do they want someone to perfectly embody who Harrison Ford is, or do they want to go a completely different route? Do they want someone to look really similar to him? I don't know, I think they're struggling with that."

In a recent poll we ran. only 10 per cent of you thought Franco Jr was the best man for the role, getting less than half the numbers of Scott Eastwood and Jack Reynor - if you disagree, feel free to cast another vote below.
Currently set for a release in May 2018, Disney is yet to reveal any information on the project - from casting to a final title. Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie) with a scrip by Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark) and his son Jon, you'd expect the spinoff to play on Solo's slick humour and deep-space-tomfoolery.
If only Chris Pratt were 10 years younger...
