Everyone and their mother is racing into the TV streaming scene right now – and this competition between Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and the old-school TV networks has produced some really watchable shows.
And tech behemoth Apple is reportedly itching to muscle further into the streaming scene, with rumours that they’re considering bringing out their own affordable rival to Amazon’s Fire Stick.

Currently, you can grab yourself an Apple TV device but it’ll set you back a cool £149 – compared to Amazon’s offering which is only £24.99 or a Google Chromecast which will set you back £20.
According to the website The Information, Apple is considering developing an affordable TV dongle to help boost the uptake of the Cupertino-based giant’s upcoming TV service, which they hope will rival Netflix for streaming original TV content.
“The tech giant has had internal discussions about introducing a low-priced streaming ‘dongle’ that people could plug into the back of their TV sets, similar to Amazon’s Fire Stick or Google’s Chromecast,” according to the tech site.

“The dongle could make Apple’s upcoming video streaming service—which will only be available on Apple devices such as the Apple TV, iPhones and iPads—more widely available. The service will be rolled out globally next year. Shows made originally for Apple will be free on the service.”
It’s too early to tell if Apple will actually end up making a TV dongle but it would make sense considering how much they’re investing in their own original programming.
On top of their Carpool Karaoke series, Apple has ordered a blockbuster slate of upcoming shows including remake of Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories, a crime series called Defending Jacob starring Chris Evans and two dramas from The Sixth Sense’s M. Night Shyamalan and La La Land’s Damien Chazelle.
