Think of toe-curling Bruce Willis performances and you probably think of any one of the man’s recent, shambolic outings.
What you should be thinking of, however, is Die Hard, that 1988 cinematic action classic where Willis ran barefoot around the Nakatomi Plaza as John McLane, unleashing a one-man war on a German terrorist group while pulling shards of glass from his bloody soles.
By frequently panning down to show us his wounded feet throughout, director John McTiernan not only made us question whether he had a fetish, but also reminded us that this wise-cracking super cop was human like the rest of us. And it’s far from his only clever use of a close-up, as this epic supercut highlights.
The video comes from video editing prodigy Roman Holiday, who previously treated us to close-up compendiums of other classic thrillers, yet might have reached his peak with this terrifying visual assault.
Set to Michel Kamen’s sharp and jangly score from the film, we see machine guns fired, C4 explosives primed, and Twinkies manhandled. Like we said, terrifying.
