High steaks indeed

Steak is one of those funny, semi-communal dishes across the world where everyone has their own way of doing it and usually think their way is the best way. Whether you’re in the States, the UK, Brazil, Spain, Singapore – most places globally, there will be a steak on the menu and a cultural twist on how they make it. It all essentially boils down to the prehistoric / caveman “man cook meat” tradition. A team of carnivorous experts over at the World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants have been doing what they do best, revealing the best spots across the globe – and nine of them are in London.

One restaurant in particular rose high to the lofty top spots in the list, claiming a respectable seventh place. Ibai, a fairly new Basque-style restaurant, was ranked 7th in the entire world, making it the highest-ranked restaurant in the UK.

Based in Farringdon, the judging panel said it was “one of the most distinctive grill-led restaurants in London”, and “takes [Basque tradition] seriously and applies it with judgement.” They went on to praise how the restaurant sources its meat in particular, saying its “sourcing mindset” helps “define the experience”, and where the restaurant gets its “confidence” from.

In addition to Ibai, which clinched a coveted spot in the top ten, the best London spots which made the list included Hawksmoor St. Pancras, which also won Best New Opening, London institution The Devonshire, and the beloved BRAT.
