A cinema is providing sick bags for anyone brave enough to watch cannibal horror movie 'Raw'

Maybe refrain from spending half of your month’s wages on a box of popcorn if you’re heading to watch French director Julia Ducournau’s harrowing new horror, Raw – because cinema execs reckon you might just throw it back up again.

So gory is the movie – in which veterinary student and lifelong vegetarian Justine suddenly realises she has an insatiable taste for human flesh – that paramedics were reportedly called out to last year’s Toronto Film Festival after a number of viewers lost their lunch.

A cinema in LA got wind of that, and decided to preemptively protect their sticky floors by handing out sick bags to squeamish attendees. “One of the staff at the Nuart took up the initiative to make the barf bags out of paper lunch bags,” film buyer Mark Valen told the Hollywood Reporter. “What a fun idea! I remember that used to be done with some horror releases in the 1970s." What a fun idea! Chucking up a greasy hot dog on your date’s shoulder! YES!

Those of stronger stomach shouldn’t let the stories put them off heading to see Raw, though. It’s currently sitting on a Rotten Tomatoes score of 88%. “Playfully queasy and artfully gory” was the verdict of Common Sense Media’s Jeffrey Anderson.

The film is released on 7 April in the UK, so you’ve got a few weeks to psyche yourself up. But as someone who prefers nice films with cartoon foxes, I won’t be in there with you.
