VIDEO: Four-year-old drives around streets of China

Apparently real video surfaces

Parents of a four-year-old Chinese girl have shot what appears to be a video of her driving a car along a busy road in Jinan, capital of Shandong Province. Alarmingly it appears it may well be real as Chinese police have made a statement saying they are powerless to act against the parents.

During the two minute video the little girl can be seen calmly speeding along the road and even passing other vehicles. Meanwhile, her parents can be heard reminding their daughter, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, to look ahead and not be distracted.

At one point, as she passes an SUV, her father, who is in the seat behind her, can be heard to say: "Concentrate! Be careful when passing other vehicles."

At a light, the girl mistakenly queues in the left turn lane but then skillfully turns the wheel and drives into the neighboring lane to continue the journey. After several minutes of driving her father says: "Jia Zheng, stop the car. Let daddy drive." The man then jumps out of the car and slides into the driving seat. The video shows the parents had fit extensions to the brake and accelerator pedals to allow their daughter to control the car.

A local police spokesman Li Xiaobin revealed that there was very little they could do, under Chinese law.

"Kids absolutely are not allowed to drive," he said. "However, as for drivers under 14 years old, we can't give them tickets.

"If we caught them, we could only educate the parents. In the worse scenario, if an accident happened, we could only ask the parents as guardians to compensate the other parties."
