The Amazon Echo Show 5 is just £50 on Amazon Prime Day 2019

The Echo Show 5 was launched just a month ago – and now Amazon Prime Day gives you the opportunity to get it cheaper than ever before.
The Show range, if you’ve not heard of it, is Amazon’s top smart home range. The devices act as home hubs – essentially an Echo with a screen. The Show 5 is the smallest device in the range, measuring just 148 x 86 x 73mm.
So what can you do with a Show? As we say, it’s basically a souped up version of the Amazon Echo. Equipped with smart assistant Alexa, you can check the weather and your calendar, plan routes to work, receive news updates or listen to the radio. And, like the Echo, it’s all voice controlled.
It also acts as a way to control your smart home devices – your lights, thermostats, security cameras and more can all be controlled.
Its screen does give it a big benefit over the Echo. You can make video calls on it via Skype or to other Show devices, pick photos for your home screen and even watch films or TV on it. Its small screen doesn’t make it the perfect way to watch something lengthy, we have to say, but it is still an option.
Amazon has clearly been listening to those of us with privacy concerns about home devices. It notes that the microphone and camera can be turned off easily, and a built in camera cover means you can be sure it’s not covertly filming you.
