Shane Meadows tells us about the future projects clogging up his diary

THIS IS ENGLAND ’90

“My second life-changing summer after ’83 was in 1990 with the rise of rave culture,” explains Meadows, describing the end of the This Is England saga. “I want it to start with an E in someone’s mouth and Fool’s Gold in the background.”

LE DONK DOES DERBY

Paddy Considine may have turned director, but Meadows is keen to enlist him for a sequel to music mockumentary Le Donk & Scor-zay-zee. “It’s about when he gets into porn in Derby,” he grins.

THE TOMMY SIMPSON STORY

The cycling biopic is currently being written. “If I were describing it to someone I’d say, ‘Don’t think about Breaking Away, think about Raging Bull.’ It’s about self-destruction.”

THE KING OF THE GYPSIES

The film adaptation of bare-knuckle boxer Bartley Gorman’s story has been in the works for four years, with Meadows directing and Considine starring. “It’s gone on the backburner, but we’ve still got the rights to the book.”

THE STONE ROSES

“I’m not known for making documentaries, although I’ve made some. I’m used to writing and creating characters,” states Meadows. “But when I get actors, I choose them for who they are. The Roses are living versions of themselves, so my technique should work.”

BEWARE THE DEVIL

This horror film was first mooted in 2009. “It’s based on the life of a guy who, by getting involved with Ouija boards and the occult by trying to disprove it — in an attempt to take the p*ss out of it — got possessed, had to be exorcised, and later became an exorcist himself.”
