'Red Dead Redemption 2' comes with a companion app – here’s what it does

There are two types of person in the world – those who were desperate to play Red Dead Redemption 2 ever since its release date was announced, and those who are not reading this article.

Sure, the new game might take away hours upon hours of our life, but what else are we going to do? Read a book? Go outside? Come on.

And it’s not just the game that’s out today – you’ll also be able to get your hands on an official companion app.

The app will be available on iOS and Android, and it effectively acts as a second screen experience while you’re playing the game.

As Rockstar Games explains, downloading the app allows you to: “Pan and zoom the map, set waypoints or mark areas of interest with a tap on your screen, aiding your exploration and discovery throughout the expansive world of Red Dead Redemption 2”.

In addition, you’ll be able to track stats and real-time data for protagonist Arthur Morgan on your mobile device, rather than relying on bringing data up on your main screen while playing the game.

So, when you’re trawling the land and taking in the frankly ridiculous array of flora and fauna on Red Dead Redemption 2, it’ll be easier than ever to see how you’re getting on.

Of course, we already know your first move will be to check out just how realistic those ‘ultra-realistic horse testicles’ really are.

It’s okay, you can admit to it – we won’t judge you, we’re doing the same thing.
