John Carpenter To Release Music Album

John Carpenter is a selfish man. Burdened with an enviable amount of talent, you'd have thought the guy would do us all a favour and stick to making improbably iconic films - but no.

Not satisfied with a credit list including The Thing, Halloween, Escape from New York, Dark Star and Assault on Precinct 13, the 66-year-old film maker is set to further highlight our lack of creative skills by releasing his first studio album.

Lost Themes, released on 3 February 2015 by Sacred Bones Records (who have previously worked with director David Lynch to create a series of soundtrack-stroke-album releases), is a collection of nine all-new tracks. Having scored the soundtracks of over 20 titles, Carpenter is no stranger to creating atmospheric sounds - his chilling piano tune for Halloween one of the most iconic. "The plan was to make my music more complete and fuller, because we had unlimited tracks," the director said of his new project. "I wasn’t dealing with just analogue anymore. It’s a brand new world."

For a taste of the haunting things to come, check out the album's first track Vortex. With the lights on. And a pillow to hand.
