After 46 years at Worthy Farm, it seems that Michael Eavis is finally going to give his cows a bit of an extended peace and quiet.
The Glastonbury Festival founder has revealed that they are currently in talks with Longleat Safari Park, a venue 20 miles away from its existing site, with a view to the festival moving there in 2019.
80-year-old Eavis told ITV News: "We haven’t done so yet, but they’re quite keen. I want to move there in 2019 basically. Worthy Farm is very warm, it’s full of atmosphere and character and history as well, but I really do need an alternative site, no doubt about it."
Longleat issued a statement confirming the news, but added an important note that it would potentially be just a one-off move.
"We are in very early discussions with the festival team about the option of the festival moving to Longleat for a single year some time in the future," they wrote. "It is on a very, very preliminary level at this time though. We don’t have anything else to add."
Eavis has previously explained the issue of hosting the festival on a site where he does not actually own all of the land.
He told Sky News, "Where the Pyramid [stage] is and all the land around it is owned by other people, so that could be a problem long-term. I may have to find a site that’s bigger and is all under the control of one person. That’s the ideal situation, so that might happen in the long-term."
