We’ve been waiting a long time for Marvel’s dysfunctional quartet to team up, but the first full trailer for The Defenders series has finally landed.
A culmination of Netflix and the comic book giant’s superhero shows so far, The Defenders unites Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist over a common goal to bring down New York’s criminal underworld. Think Avengers, but grimier and with less CGI.
The trailer also confirms that fan favourite Elektra, last seen at the end of Daredevil’s second season, will also make a return to the shared universe. Shady underground organisation The Hand will play a big part in this series, but we still haven’t seen much of Sigourney Weaver’s mysterious baddie.
It’s way too early to judge, obviously, but fans will hope this is a return to form after the critically-derided Iron Fist. So far we’ve got slow-motion punches, snarky one-liners, a car smashing through a building and one of those exceptionally-choreographed corridor fight scenes that tend to get rewinded at least twice. Good start.
