Dying Star Wars fan gets to see The Force Awakens early

Director Abrams makes a wish come true

Dying Star Wars fan gets to see The Force Awakens early
06 November 2015

Well here's a heartwarming story for a Friday.

A terminally ill Star Wars fan has had his wish to see The Force Awakens granted after director J J Abrams arranged for him to watch an unedited version of the hugely-anticipated film on 5 November.

32-year-old Texan Daniel Fleetwood suffers from spindle cell sarcoma and feared he would not live long enough to watch the film in cinemas, with its US release date being 18 December. His wish went viral, with actors John Boyega, Mark Hamill and Peter Mayhew all helping spread the #ForceforDaniel hashtag across social media.

Daniel's wife then revealed on Facebook that his wish had come true.

To all our wonderful supporters, friends, family and awesome strangers: Daniels final dream was just granted!!! Today the wonderful Disney and Lucasfilms made his final dream come true, in the amazing typical Disney way, they really do make dreams come true!

Daniel just finished watching an unedited version of Star Wars: The Force Awakens!!! We would like to thank the awesomely talented JJ Abrams for calling us yesterday to tell us Daniel was getting his wish granted! We also would like to thank Lynne, Ben and Anahuac for coming to our home and screening the movie for Daniel.

Lastly I want to thank ALL the amazing people who helped make this happen, thank you beyond words!!! May the force be with you all ‪#‎forcefordaniel‬ !!!!

Abrams has previously granted a dying fan's wish: in 2013 he showed a rough cut of Star Trek: Into Darkness to a fan who sadly died days afterwards, but not before watching a film they loved.

What a thoroughly top guy.
