Hosting SNL for the first time ever the day after the presidential inauguration must be daunting. On the one hand, you’ve got ample material. On the other, you know Mr Trumptastic is watching and waiting to tweet how sad you are. Even though it’s his first day in office.
But Aziz Ansari, comedian creator of the award-winning Master of None, didn’t let it get to him. He focused on it and delivered a 10-minute monologue absolutely nailing the situation.
He talks to and about Trump supporters in a respectful but opposing way, compares Trump to Chris Brown and poignantly reminds everyone that:
“Change doesn’t come from presidents. Change comes from large groups of angry people — and if day one is any indication, you are part of the largest group of angry people I have ever seen. Good luck.”
He also reminds everyone that George W. Bush is 100 per cent having his “how you like me now” moment.
Ansari touches on significant factors during the election – immigration, Islamaphobia and racism – in a refreshingly smart and mischievous way, making it the best 10-minutes you’ll watch today.
