The first trailer for Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper's 'A Star Is Born' is here
And everyone's singing for realsies
The new trailer for the Bradley Cooper-directed remake of A Star Is Born, starring Lady Gaga and Cooper himself, has dropped. It features DRAMA and SINGING and DRAMA and ROMANCE and DRAMA and SEX and DRAMA and LOVE and BEARDS and DRAMA and WIGS. And Dave Chappelle. And DRAMA.
It’s the fourth version of the story, which was first made into a film in 1937 starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, and subsequently remade in 1954 (with Judy Garland and James Mason) and 1976 (wth Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson). Back in 2011 it briefly looked like Clint Eastwood was going to do a remake starring Beyonce, but the latter’s pregnancy sent plans back to the drawing board.
All of the singing in the new film was performed live – something of a busman’s holiday for Lady Gaga but a new one for Bradley Cooper, who is also making his directorial debut. Scenes were shot in front of enormous festival crowds – including 80,000 fans at Glastonbury who didn’t necessarily expect to be extras in a movie.
“One of the great things that I love about the movie is we shot everything from the stage, and we went to real concerts, real venues, and just jumped onstage for 45 minutes,” he told Robert De Niro on stage at the Tribeca Film Festival. “We were at Stagecoach; I got to sing in front of like, 20,000 people. We got to jump on the stage at Glastonbury, which is the largest open-air music festival in the world, and I was there at the Pyramid Stage, singing in front of 80,000 people. The production value you get out of that is great.”
People seem pretty impressed with the trailer, with talk of awards around Lady Gaga’s performance already:
Based on what we can see here, it looks like she’s smashed it.
A Star Is Born is released on October 5th
