GTA 6 release date 'revealed' in job ad, reckon fans

Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most highly anticipated games of recent years - and now some super-sleuth fans are convinced that 2020 might well be the launch date.

Why? Well, it seems that job adverts can be a bit of a giveaway - or so say the investigative gamers in question.

It all started when Rockstar Games - the developer behind the Grand Theft Auto series - posted a rather specific job listing on their site.

It appears the Rockstar team are on the hunt for what they call an Animation Systems Programmer.

The role’s accompanying description states the gaming firm are looking for an ‘individual to help develop ‘advanced animation systems for large open world character-based games’.

Sounds suspiciously like a certain automotive game we all know and love, huh?

‘You should have strong coding skills, a good knowledge and interest in character animation systems, and passion for realistic, high quality character motion,’ the ad continues. And the kicker is: "We are a global team of programmers and researchers who collaborate on pushing the boundaries of character animation on next generation hardware."

Next-gen hardware, eh? Well, that rules out any 2019 reveal and pushes GTA 6 to 2020 at the earliest as that is when we will see both the PS5 and Project Scarlett (Xbox's next-gen console).

The news comes as Rockstar remain tight lipped about any updates or forthcoming launches relating to the series, ensuring PS4 and Xbox fans will be left waiting a little bit longer - possibly until the launch of the PS5 - to get their hands on the game.

And with only a couple of reveal opportunities left in the gaming calendar - The Game Awards and the PlayStation Awards - 2019 is not looking like the year that we will get any concrete news about GTA 6.
