Cumberbatch To Play Hamlet in London

Benedict Cumberbatch is to follow many of his famous acting contemporaries and take to the stage in London next year.

The Sherlock star will perform as the eponymous Prince Hamlet in the Bard's classic at the Barbican Centre in Central London, during a run from August to October 2015.

Lyndsey Turner will direct the 12-week stint and with the venue housing only 1,160, there is sure to be huge demand for the world famous star.

Producer Sonia Friedman described Cumberbatch as “one of the most gifted and exciting actors of his generation” and the London-born star will be performing Shakespeare for the first time since 2002, when he portrayed Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet.

No word yet on when tickets will be on sale, but there'll be sure to be a scrum when they appear.
