Versace hits the high street

Their latest collection is exclusive to H&M

Versace hits the high street

Buying a Versace tuxedo used to play out something like this: “It fits perfectly, I’ll take it.” “Nice choice, sir. That will be £10,000.” But no longer.

Versace has designed a collection for high street institution H&M. In doing so, creative director Donatella Versace has turned to the archives and resurrected a number of iconic pieces.

It’s notable for its extravagance. Suit jackets come in a standard black or, if you’re feeling adventurous, shocking pink. Shirts are decorated with metallic wing-tips on the collars. And Versace’s famous palm and optical prints are used on the T-shirts and sweaters.

There’s also a quilted leather jacket trimmed with gold studs in Versace’s classic Greek key pattern, which is also repeated on cotton shorts and a rolled-sleeve T-shirt.

And, of course, there’s the H&M version of the Versace tuxedo. Should you want one, the conversation now runs more like this: “It fits perfectly, I’ll take it.” “Nice choice, sir. That’ll be £134.98.”

The collection will be in stores from 17 November.
