At the risk of sounding bleak, or the hapless half of Itchy & Scratchy, there are plenty of ways you can be killed while going about your everyday business: falling crane, flying rock, circular saw.
Hell, it won’t be too long before we see someone being flattened by a falling piano. But for now you can add ‘bridge with a massive crack in it’ to the list as new footage from South America gives us another real-life Final Destination moment.
Believed to have been captured in Colombia, the gasp-inducing video shows the dicey moments when a bridge starts to crack and locals run over it to safety. The stakes are significantly raised by the fact a fast-flowing river runs directly underneath, and some seconds after the last of the runners makes it over, the entire structure crumbles into the rapid waters below.
For all its potential horror, however, there’s something inimitably comforting about watching this footage. Perhaps it’s knowing the poor soul who came within a whisker of meeting their maker will have a newfound respect for life, or maybe it’s because we know those lucky locals are about to get a fancy new bridge.
Either way, we’ll stick to staying indoors for a bit.

At Shortlist you'll find him mostly writing about movies and tech, so no change there then.
