According to Woody Guthrie, this is what it was like to live in Donald Trump's racist dad's apartment

Celebrated American singer-songwriter and political protester Woody Guthrie lived in one of Donald Trump’s father's apartments in the fifties and, according to him, big papa Trump was a mahoosive racist.

Big surprise, right?

Fred Trump kept a “color bar” to maintain a whites-only policy within his properties – which makes sense, considering he also fought with the Klu Klux Klan against police during their heyday.

Obviously, left-leaning Guthrie didn’t much approve of Trump’s racist ideologies, and subsequently wrote songs about much of a hateful bum wipe he was. Will Kaufman, Professor of American Literature and Culture at University of Central Lancashire, unearthed these songs from the Woody Guthrie archives:

"For Guthrie, Fred Trump came to personify all the viciousness of the racist codes that continued to put decent housing – both public and private – out of reach for so many of his fellow citizens:

I suppose

Old Man Trump knows

Just how much

Racial Hate

he stirred up

In the bloodpot of human hearts

When he drawed

That color line

Here at his

Eighteen hundred family project ....

And as if to leave no doubt over Trump’s personal culpability in perpetuating black Americans’ status as internal refugees – strangers in their own strange land – Guthrie reworked his signature Dust Bowl ballad “I Ain’t Got No Home” into a blistering broadside against his landlord:

Beach Haven ain’t my home!

I just cain’t pay this rent!

My money’s down the drain!

And my soul is badly bent!

Beach Haven looks like heaven

Where no black ones come to roam!

No, no, no! Old Man Trump!

Old Beach Haven ain’t my home!"

So yeah, Trump senior was an awful bastard - he even bribed federal officers in exchange for government handouts, which he then used to fund his property empire.
