We suppose once you've made a film about Pac-Man then anything is fair game.
In somewhat unbelievable news, it seems that a three-studio bidding war has resulted in Sony Pictures Animation signing a seven-figure deal to make an animated movie about Emojis. Yes, that's right, you'll be laughing, crying and flamenco dancing in the aisles at a film based on those ubiquitous Japanese pictograms.
Eric Siegel and Anthony Leondis are pencilled to co-write the project. Leondis previously directed Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Masters and is due to take the director's seat for this one.
The aforementioned Pac-Man-starring movie, Pixels, which features Adam Sandler and a host of famous video game characters, is released this Friday in the States - Sony desperately hoping it's resulting success is one the Emoji film can cash in on.
What could the plot be? How will it work? We have absolutely no idea. Answers on a postcard (or via an emoji-filled message) to Sony - and in the meantime, see if you can work out which films these emojis are describing (answers at the bottom).
(Answers: Alice in Wonderland, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Fight Club, To Kill a Mockingbird, Tarzan, Up, It's a Wonderful Life, Les Miserables)
