Who? Coldplay
What’s the story? It's no surprise that Coldplay's comeback single is upbeat - given the seriously downbeat nature of last year's break-up record Ghost Stories, this was always likely to be a reaction to that - but we weren't quite expecting disco. Nonetheless, it's a welcome surprise, with Johnny Buckland's ever-twisting guitar work calling to mind his riff on Every Teardrop is a Waterfall and bassist Guy Berryman reminding us that he can actually lay down a serious groove when the opportunity presents itself. The parent album A Head Full Of Dreams has also been announced: it'll land on 4 December and will feature guest spots from Beyoncé, Noel Gallagher, Tove Lo and Merry Clayton. And if you were in any doubt that this will be Pop with a capital P, it's been co-produced by Norwegian hitmakers Stargate. This could make Mylo Xyloto sound like Blood on the Tracks. Give yourself that Friday feeling and turn this up.
