Some battles are as old as time itself. Light vs dark. Cats vs dogs. Critics vs fans.
Ben Moore was so intrigued by this last standoff that he turned his considerable data analysis skills to charting the most overrated (loved by critics, rejected by the massses) and underrated (you get the idea) films of all time.
To carry out his investigation, Moore turned to the critical aggregator Rotten Tomatoes - the disputed king of cumulative review scores. Building a sample of films (around 2,600), Moore grabbed the data for the critics' scores and public scores. Critics also appear to dislike lowbrow comedies (Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Grandma’s boy) and felt equally betrayed as we did over the handling of the Bad Boys sequel.
The most overrated were as follows:
In short, the public don't seem to warm to kid's films (or Hugh Grant) as much as the critics do.

As Content Director of Shortlist, Marc likes nothing more than to compile endless lists of an evening by candlelight. He started out life as a movie writer for numerous (now defunct) magazines and soon found himself online - editing a gaggle of gadget sites, including TechRadar, Digital Camera World and Tom's Guide UK. At Shortlist you'll find him mostly writing about movies and tech, so no change there then.
