The many faces of Shia LaBeouf

We don't understand Shia LaBeouf. But then, like a wander through the halls of the Tate Modern, we're not sure you're supposed to.

Mobile phone footage has surfaced of LaBeouf's latest moment of unconventional artistic expression, which sees the actor-turned-we're not quite sure demonstrate his freestyle rapping skills.

Starting with this most recent new find, here's a low down on the ever shifting enigma that is Shia LaBeouf.

Freestyling LaBeouf

We don't know where this outburst took place, nor the exact date (probably within the last month, but before he sustained a serious head injury on the set of post-apocalyptic film American Honey, which he's currently shooting) , but LaBeouf looks to have rekindled a love of rap we haven't seen since this slightly awkward video of him laying down spit in a recording studio.

No, not all of it rhymes, and no, very little of it makes sense, but admit it - Shia LaBeouf is a much better freestyle rapper than you are.

Motivational LaBeouf

Watching the above clip of LaBeouf in isolation will leave the majority of viewers confused, coupled with a sense that they're ready to open that second-hand book store they've always dreamt of.

In its wider context it makes (a bit) more sense. The work of LaBeouf, Finnish creative Nastja Säde Rönkkö and Brit Luke Turner, this motivational assault was part of a collaborative project with Central Saint Martins BA Fine Art 2015 students. If you've got four hours of your life you want to throw into a maddening vortex of confusion, you can watch the whole project here - or just the 31 minutes of LaBeoufisms here.

The not famous LaBeouf

Another of LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner's infamous artistic projects, LaBeouf turned up at the Berlin Film Festival's screening of Nymphomaniac: Vol. I with a paper bag on his head, adorned in with the slogan "I am not famous anymore". This bag would go on to star in an art installation #IAMSORRY: viewers could sit in a chair opposite the bagged LaBeouf, who would either remain motionless or - if you were lucky - remove the bag and proceed to cry.

Maddie Ziegler is a 12-year-old dance prodigy who rose to fame after an appearance on US reality show Dance Moms.

Shai LaBeouf is an occasional actor best known for his roles in Michael Bay's Transformers films.

We understand how Ziegler landed herself a role in the music video for Sia's Elastic Heart (she'd already danced in another of her releases), but we're still trying to connect the dots as to how LaBeouf ever got the call. He also once got naked for a Sigur Ros video.

In between all of his other avant garde works, LaBeouf does still occasionally act - and act quite well.

For evidence of LaBeouf's main professional work, see 2014's Fury or 2012's Lawless. They make a lot more sense that the above assortment of expressive outlets/cries for help.
