The greatest Twitter reactions to Andy Murray's epic Wimbledon win

Typical; you wait 77 years for a British man to win Wimbledon and two victories come along in almost as many years.

In an epic day of British sporting achievement which saw Lewis Hamilton make it a hat-trick of Silverstone wins in the F1 and Chris Froome retain his lead in the Tour de France, a sizeable home-grown contingent was making all the right noises at SW19.

Heather Watson won the mixed doubles alongside Henri Kontinen, Gordon Reid the men’s wheelchair singles title and Jordanne Whiley the women’s wheelchair doubles, but the biggest win of all was by Andy Murray, winning his second men’s singles title on Centre Court in three sets against Canada’s Milos Raonic.

Here’s how the Scot's historic victory was greeted on Twitter.

Gary Lineker saluted the champ

As did the dastardly Frank Underwood

When you are less bothered about winning Wimbledon and more bothered about the new series of Sherlock

We questioned whether the BBC had *too much* access

Fans were reminded just how good Murray's returning game was

David Schneider got topical

And for good reason

A rare show of human emotion by the andorid known as Ivan Lendl was documented

Fellow Scot Irvine Welsh got all patriotic

And who's to say God didn't play a part?

If looks could kill...
