Now, the story of a successful film getting a reboot is nothing special. In fact, it happens about thrice a day.
But the story of a successful film that's less than 10 years old being thrust into the remake machine is something notable. For all the worst reasons.
The 2004 Ashton Kutcher thriller The Butterfly Effect has been deemed suitable enough for a rejig and original writer/director Eric Bress is behind the new script.
The same set of producers are also attached to Butterfly Effect 2.0. The original film was a surprise sleeper hit and made $96 million worldwide off a $13 million budget.
It starred Kutcher as a time-travelling meddler who discovered that trying to change the past had disastrous consequences for the future. It spawned two direct-to-DVD sequels.
Next up, a Pacific Rim reboot. Probably.
