Boris Johnson: bumbling, floppy-haired Have I Got News For You host to some, calculating architect of Brexit to others. To Thandie Newton’s teenage daughter, though, Boris Johnson is simply a cunt.
In an interview with the Sunday Times this weekend, the Westworld star revealed that her 16-year-old daughter Ripley had cornered the Foreign Secretary at a showing of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
“She went over to say ‘Hello, Mr Johnson, my name is Ripley Parker and I just wanted to tell you you’re a c*nt. I hope you enjoy the show,’” Newton explained.
And although the actress added that it was her New Year’s resolution “not to use that word in a derogatory manner”, she also added that she was “so proud” of her daughter.
It seems to have gone down well: “god bless you Thandie for raising good children” one Twitter user proclaimed. “Until a minute ago I didn't know Thandie Newton had a daughter. Now I want a t-shirt with her face on it” said another.
Newton also used the interview to talk about the lack of diversity in the British entertainment industry. “I love being here, but I can’t work because I can’t do Downton Abbey, can’t be in Victoria, can’t be in Call the Midwife,” she said. “There just seems to be a desire for stuff about the royal family, stuff from the past, which is understandable, but it just makes it slim pickings for people of colour.”
