We hate loose change. It clatters about in our pockets like a dalek falling down stairs, and when we actually have need for 23 pence, we find it's made a bid for freedom in the open plains of the nether sofa.

Andre Levy has found a far better purpose for common shrapnel. What started out as an Instagram project for the Brazilian designer has become a fully fledged art project, Tales You Lose.

"Coins are actually massively-reproduced little sculptures", explains Levy's Facebook page. "This project brings individual character to each replica, and makes us think: Are we able to like one cent more than others, just by injecting new stories in it?"

From Einstein to Wolverine, heads of state and past dignitaries have been adapted with immaculate skill to create new miniature works of art. You can find more of Levy's work on his Tumblr, or via his Instagram account @zhion.
