This is a new BMW. The distinctive grille at the front probably gives its identity away. That, and the BMW badge. But look closely – that it’s no ordinary BMW should instantly become obvious. Although if you’re struggling to put your finger on what’s different, here’s a pointer for you: instead of the standard metallic mesh seen on other BMWs, the grille at the front is made of Zs.
Not only that, but there is also a glass boot lid and the roof features a distinctive ‘double bubble’.
These additions are all trademarks of design consultancy Zagato, which has also recently designed special-edition cars for Alfa Romeo and Aston Martin.
As it’s a one-off model, BMW isn’t exactly shouting about the car’s specifications or, in fact, revealing any of them at all. But we’re not just going to write the car off as an (expensive) exercise in design. After all, Aston Martin’s recent Zagato collaboration turned out to be so popular that a limited-edition run was then commissioned to sate the super-rich’s desire for it.
Fit into that wealthy bracket? Then it’s time to start making persuasive gestures in BMW’s direction.
