Les Misérables heading to TV

Despite the Oscar-winning musical still being so fresh in our collective memory, Fox are planning a contemporary take on Victor Hugo's classic novel Les Misérables for the small screen.

The new version, spearheaded by Veronica Mars and Party Down creator Rob Thomas, will tell the story of a lawyer running a legal exoneration program who is still fighting his own unjust conviction from years ago. He must juggle saving innocents, his romantic life and evading a ruthless U.S. Attorney who is keen to see him get his comeuppance.

The new series is seen as a primetime soap, in the vein of ABC's guilty pleasure hit Revenge.

Thomas has teamed with actor/writer Graham Norris to bring the project to the screen. There's no word on whether the show will feature any musical numbers.
