The shoot for DiCaprio's latest film has been plagued with rumours of banished producers, hypothermia-inducing temperatures and naked actors being dragged across ice.
And that's before Leo's efforts.
The actor toldYahoo Movies that he had to eat raw bison liver and sleep inside animal carcasses to get into character on the set.
I certainly don’t eat raw bison liver on a regular basis. When you see the movie, you’ll see my reaction to it, because Alejandro kept it in. It says it all. It was an instinctive reaction.
If that doesn't make you accurately portray a man who was mauled by a bear, buried alive and on a mission to avenge your only child, then we don't know what will.
DiCaprio seems pretty chuffed with the outcome though, so it seems like it was worth it.
[Those scenes]—amongst many other sequences—were some of the more difficult things I’ve ever had to do in my entire career. But the end result is going to be one of the most immersive experiences audiences will ever have with what it would be like to come face-to-face with an animal of that magnitude that is incredibly primal.
Can someone just give the guy an Oscar already?
