You're probably not aware of this (bonus points if you are) but in 1999, a pilot was created for James Ellroy's book-turned-movie LA Confidential. It starred Kiefer Sutherland and was supposed to be for a HBO series but remained on the shelf until 2003.
Hoping that things work out slightly better this time, Ellroy has written a small screen sequel to the 50s-set LA noir and, along with production company New Regency, he's shopping the project around.
They're aiming for an agreement which would bypass a simple pilot and go straight for a series order, rather like David Fincher's House of Cards on Netflix.
Apparently the sequel will continue the themes of the 1997 movie, suggesting it'll also involve police corruption, murder and tabloid journalism. The original film starred Kevin Spacey, Guy Pearce, Russell Crowe and an Oscar-winning Kim Basinger.
What do you think? Good idea?
