In probably the least surprising announcement since Nick Clegg decided to have a break from leading the Lib Debs, Jurassic World has announced that a sequel is coming.
The news was announced via their Twitter account last night, with a release date of June 22, 2018 already announced. Our art department has worked through the night to mock up a possible cover for the next release, which you can see above.
Jurassic World, the first new film in the Jurassic series since 2001's Jurassic Park III, has been an absolute box office monster, earning the highest first week takings of all time ($524.4m) and, just six weeks after release, it's already become the third highest-grossing film of all time.
It did so through a winning combination of nostalgic love for the original three and by actually being a really good film; alongside the obvious dinosaur smash-ups was an interesting, thoughtful plot and direction by Colin Trevorrow and a very likeable leading man performance by Chris Pratt; the sequel will see him and his female co-star Bryce Dallas Howard return, along with Spielberg as executive producer and Trevorrow writing the script. If it ain't broke eh? We're still hoping Jeff Goldblum makes a return in the next one though.
Without spoiling, the movie left an obvious setup for a sequel, so it'll be interesting to see where they take that idea. But after creating genetically-modified dinosaurs in Jurassic World, how exactly will they up the ante further? Let us know where you think they'll go in our poll below.
