What is the most beautiful car ever made? Those of you who said the Jaguar E-Type, well done. Everyone else - you're wrong. So very, very wrong. Even Enzo Ferrari described it as "the most beautiful car ever made". And it's back.
Built by a special division of Jaguar Land Rover (appropriately titled Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations), six brand new Lightweight E-Types are set to roll off the group's tiny Coventry-based production line later this year - and this is what it looks like.
Jaguar hasn't commissioned six of these hand-built cars on a vain whim - though we wouldn't complain if it had. These six cars are the 'missing' vehicles from a Special GT E-Type project that began in 1963. Eighteen cars were originally intended to be built, but only 12 of the aluminum-bodied Lightweight E-Type vehicles made it out of the garage. The new cars will carry the six unused chassis numbers designated back in 1963.
With the same lightweight aluminium body and 3.8-litre Jaguar XK inline-six engine, this is a modern slice of automotive history. There's no word on how much the six special 'continuations' will cost - expect at least five zeros on the price tag. And if that wasn't enough classic Jag action, a special ‘Car Zero’ prototype will go on display at the Pebble Beach classic car automotive weekend on 14 August.
