It's the saga that feels like it's been going on as long as the Bond franchise itself.
But it looks like the hotly-awaited theme song for the new Bond film SPECTRE will indeed be sung by original favourite Sam Smith.
Despite telling Radio 2 days ago that he was "definitely not" doing the theme, he has now tweeted an enigmatic photo of his hand, wearing a ring embossed with the famous SPECTRE logo. Either he's trolling us all, or it's the first sign that he's in for another epic tune.
Various reports have gone from Sam Smith, to Ellie Goulding, to Adele following up Skyfall herself, to Radiohead - who were tipped after a £15,000 bet - and now back to Smith. Goulding herself spurred a lot of the speculation with her own Instagram showing her leaving Abbey Road in July with the caption, "That's a Wrap".
However - still - nothing has been confirmed, with Smith telling Radio 2, when asked if he was working on music for 007, "That's not me. That's definitely not me. I've still got loads to do, I've got an Australia tour, but I kind of finish in December which is great, it gives me a chance to be in London, be in my home and go out with my friends."
It would be a sensible populist choice from the Bond execs; Smith just broke the record for the longest consecutive run in the top 10 of the album charts with his debut In The Lonely Hour, clocking up an astonishing 67 weeks in a row - it's been nestled in there since May 2014. It beat the previous record of Emeli Sande's Our Version of Events, which clung on for 66 weeks over 2012-13.
