Game of Thrones Official Hip Hop Mixtape
06 March 2014

Someone's about to drop the beat on the world of Westeros.

As unlikely as it might sound, HBO have announced that they've been working with several hip hop artists to produce a ten track Game of Thrones mixtape.

Entitled Catch the Throne: The Mixtape, the collection includes the lyrical contributions of Common, Big Boi, Daddy Yankee and Bodega Bamz, each performing over sampled beats from the show's music. Lyrics include the likes of:

"I'm tellin' whoever messin' with me, I can bring you that Khaleesi heat"

And...

"I sit and think when I'm in my zone, this life is like a Game of Thrones"

As well as drumming up further interest in the show's forthcoming fourth season (as if we needed any more hype), the mixtape is aimed squarely at the show's urban, multicultural audience. "Our multicultural audiences are a very important part of our subscribers, and we don't want to take them for granted," Lucinda Martinez, HBO's senior vice president for multicultural marketing, told The Wall Street Journal. The mixtape is part of HBO's wider strategy to expand its subscription base in the US.

We'll be hosting the SoundCloud release of the mixtape as soon as it becomes available on 7 March. In the mean time, you might as well watch the latest season for trailer. Again.
