Meeting the Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny on Thursday, ahead of St. Patrick’s Day, naturally the US President Donald Trump wanted to make a good impression with one of the country’s closest allies.
Standing beside Kenny, he said: "As we stand together with our Irish friends, I’m reminded of an Irish proverb – and this is a good one, this is one I like, I’ve heard it for many, many years and I love it.”
He proceeded to read: "Always remember to forget the friends that proved untrue, but never forget to remember those that have stuck by you.”
He added: "We know that, politically speaking.”
Just one problem with this. It’s not an Irish proverb. It’s not even Irish. Or a proverb.
Sorry, who was that author again?
