At the young, impressionable ages at which we first enjoyed Home Alone and it's NYC-set sequel, we found them to be breathlessly entertaining.
Even if we now view them as graphically violent and morally questionable, they're still inarguable childhood classics. You may be less aware of the other two sequels.
Home Alone 3 actually managed a theatrical release back in 1997 with a new kid behind the diabolical torture while a made-for-TV follow-up Home Alone 4: Taking Back The House confusingly re-cast the original characters, including Kevin, with new actors.
Upsettingly for everyone with working eyes and ears, a fifth installment has just been announced. Home Alone 5: Alone in the Dark will feature two children setting traps to catch the ghost they are convinced is haunting their house. Instead they end up trapping three criminals, including, depressingly, A Clockwork Orange star Malcolm McDowell.
The film will premiere next Christmas on ABC Family in the US and in the UK at an unspecified date.
