"Cinco cervezas", we shout at the perplexed barman. Ordering a round is the single skill we can recall from our A level Spanish lessons. Except we're in France.

A solution to this crippling travel quandary has been provided by Pivo's beer ordering app, which can translate your beer request into 59 different languages.

Swipe through the options to select your language and you'll receive the phrase in the required tongue, in addition to a helpful phonetic pronunciation. Pivo also provides a "video tutorial" for each translation from a native speaker to help you nail the accent.

Or you could go about it the classic British way: remain ignorant, point at an empty glass and shout in incomprehensible "generic foreign".

It won't order you a G&T though.
