A short time ago in a casting office far, far away - okay, so Bad Robot in LA - a decision was made as to who the new villain would be in JJ Abrams’ much awaited Star Wars film.
And now, excitingly, we can confirm that the actor in question is Adam Driver, best known for playing the layabout lover of Lena Dunham in HBO's Girls.
If you’re unfamiliar with the 30-year-old’s work, however, you could well have spotted him pop up with bit-parts of weighty Oscar-bait of late (Lincoln, Inside Llewyn Davis) and hipster-fare (Frances Ha), all indications he should be more than capable with portraying a character Variety reports as being 'in the “vein” of Darth Vader'.
The news has also been confirmed via the unlikely source of Driver's Girls co-star Lena Dunham, tweeting:
With filming set for April at Pinewood Studios and a world-wide release slated for 18 December 2015, expect more casting announcements in due course. Call it our Jedi intuition, but we’ve a good feeling about this one already.
