This funny new Netflix show has the ‘Community’ reunion we’ve all been desperately waiting for

Community, which ran from 2009 to 2015, was undoubtedly one of the funniest American TV shows in years. For me, it’s still right up there with Seinfeld and 30 Rock. And fans of the show should be pretty pleased to learn there’s been a mini cast reunion for Joe McHale’s upcoming Netflix series.

In a hilarious trailer for the show, McHale - who we grew to love/hate as the smarmy former lawyer Jeff Winger - can be seen walking into Netflix HQ to grab a cup of coffee. There he meets Alison Brie (who played Annie Edison and now stars in Netflix’s Glow) and Jim Rash (Dean Craig Pelton who hosts the streaming service’s Stranger Things after-show).

Watch the funny clip here for a teaser of what we can look forward to on McHale’s new programme:

Unfortunately, we don’t see all our old favourites in the clip – and Alison Brie even sighs at the end: “Fuck I miss Chevy.” Same, Alison. Same.

The format of McHale’s new programme, however, is less scripted than Community and more of a late-night sketch show – basically a bit like McHale’s old show The Soup. According to Netflix: “The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale is a weekly topical series featuring celebrity guests, comedy sketches, and insane video clips from every corner of the internet.”

You can watch the first episode ‘Pickler, Pebbles, Pillows and Priestly’ right now on Netflix.

Speaking about the new programme, McHale told The Hollywood Reporter that he’ll be covering more than just the obvious topics like Donald Trump. He said: “Trump takes up 90 percent of news and entertainment now. And we want people to know that there are a lot of bad and silly reality shows out there that need to be made fun of.

“Now we’re going to make fun of everything. We’re going to make fun of streaming services, we’re going to be making fun of reality shows in other countries.”

While we’re pleased to see this latest show from Netflix, we’re still desperately waiting for that Community movie and maybe even another paintball episode? Is that too much to ask?
