ShortList Readers Want Steve Coogan To Replace Jeremy Clarkson On Top Gear

The people (that’s you) have spoken and we can now announce that Steve Coogan is who you would most like to see as the new presenter of Top Gear.

In perhaps the most important election news of 2015, readers of Shortlist have loudly declared that they'd most like to see the popular choice take over from that fist of hungry fury himself, Jeremy Clarkson. While the poll is still live, at the time of publishing, Coogan has left the other hopefuls trailing in his carcinogenic exhaust fumes.

Over 600 of you have voted so far, and the The Trip to Italy man has accrued a whopping 33.83% of the polling. You can tell that this is a very serious piece of journalism because we even have a bar chart - just look how important those bars and figures look.

And as you can see, Chris Evans comes in second thus far, although he seems to have already ruled himself out of the running. Another interesting feature is the appearance of Nigel Farage who has more votes than Piers Morgan, which proves that when people have a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea, they still hate Piers Morgan.

Another interest point is that Jodie Kidd, much touted to become Top Gear's female lead this week, picked up only 9.78 per cent of the vote. That's half the total accrued by Sabine Schmitz, who you clearly think would make the ideal female replacement as she sits third in our poll.

The overwhelming results of this poll, added to the very popular petition for Alan Partridge to replace Clarkson, means that the Queen (Alan Yentob) is expected to ask Steve Coogan to form a new Top Gear team within the next few hours. Hammond and May are not expected to be in the cabonnet.
