It’s had the biggest guest stars in the galaxy. But the biggest of them all is about to appear

When it comes to shows with loyal fanbases, The Big Bang Theory has the kind of longevity most shows can only dream of.

The sci-fi comedy entered the top 10 most-viewed programmes in the US in 2011 and has stayed there ever since, topping 12m viewers in each episode of its current 11th season and last dipping below ten million all the way back in 2009.

It might be slipping among younger viewers, at least compared to some other shows, but spin-off Young Sheldon has received similarly impressive viewing figures in the meantime.

With two episodes left in season 11, TBBT is hoping to go out on a high, and it may have the perfect guest star to help it do just that.

The Big Bang Theory has hardly been found wanting when it comes to introducing guest stars with a link to its nerdy, science-y roots.

Alien expert and literal man on the moon Buzz Aldrin has appeared on the comedy before, as have scientist Stephen Hawking and Star Trek veterans LeVar Burton, George Takei and Will Wheaton.

However, when it comes to the crossover between nerdy stuff and famous stuff, there’s no topping Star Wars – and within that world, you can’t get much bigger than Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill.

Hamill will appear in the final episode of the season in May, according to an announcement from broadcaster CBS, where he will be joined by a number of other big names.

Among the other guests are Oscar winner Kathy Bates and Teller of Penn and Teller fame.

The Big Bang Theory has already been renewed for a 12th season, which those involved have suggested could be its last.
