50p coin explains offside rule

Ever found yourself trying to explain the offside rule to someone (think of that befuddled, non-footballing loving friend of yours), while rumbling in your pocket for loose change, say 50p?

Funny how that happens, eh? Well, the Royal Mint have hit upon the perfect solution: a 50p coin that rather handily explains the offside rule on the other side to Betty Windsor’s head.

Designed to commemorate this year’s Olympics and Paralympics, the coin was designed by journalist Neil Wolfson and is part of a 29-strong set.

The limited run will be in general circulation, but if you’re feeling flush you can buy one for £2.99 – just don’t hope to solve the global economic crisis with that kind of mindset.
