We have some bad news for 'Flight of the Conchords' fans

Flight of the Conchords

“Life, oh life, ooooh liiiiife”, as Des’ree once sang. Life, you giveth and then you taketh away.

First you giveth us a first Flight of the Conchords live tour in seven years, but you do not giveth enough dates to satisfy huge demand from fans and everyone gets angry.

Then you giveth us extra dates to satisfy demand and stop people moaning, expanding the UK leg to a massive 21 dates including three nights at London’s O2 Arena.

Then you giveth us eight successfully completed shows in Portsmouth, York and Milton Keynes.

But then - why, oh why, cruel, vengeful god, you taketh them away again.

Yes, unfortunately we have very bad news for the very many of you who were incredibly excited about going to see New Zealand’s fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo: as of last night (18 March) the rest of the UK tour has been postponed.

The reason? One Conchord, the Oscar-winning Bret McKenzie, has injured himself like an idiot.

He tweeted:

“Unfortunately I’ve broken two bones in my hand today in a very rock ‘n’ roll injury – falling down some stairs. The doctors have informed me that I won’t be able to perform for several weeks. I’m sorry not to be able to do these upcoming shows but I’m looking forward to coming back and finishing the tour when I have two fully functioning hands.”

A statement added: “Bret and Jemaine are extremely sorry and deeply saddened that they cannot perform for their UK fans, who have waited so patiently.”

Come on Bret, surely you could have played through the pain barrier? What are you: a man or a muppet?

Seriously though Bret, get well soon, and hopefully the new hour-long special that was reported to be happening this year is still going to go ahead.

There are currently no details on when the rescheduled dates will happen, with the statement merely saying: “Ticket holders will be contacted about the rescheduling of dates. More information to follow.”

Let’s all watch the best Pet Shop Boys parody ever to cheer us all up shall we?

Yes, let’s.
